Visuals impact the way we see ourselves – and the world around us. When inclusiveness and diversity are considered in imagery, we create authentic representation which can change perceptions, shift mindsets, and help create lasting connections between brands and consumers.

At this in-person breakfast event, in partnership with Getty Images, we will explore strategies and challenges for in-house teams to move marketing communications beyond the superficial and tokenistic and create campaigns that truly resonate.

The session will begin with Peter Bates, Head of Brand & Marketing at Citi, and Getty Images Head of Creative Insights, Dr Rebecca Swift who will tell us how and why they created a series of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Imagery Toolkits to set a standard for authentic representation and guide Citi’s campaigns around the world. By considering people with reference to their Age, Bodies, Disability, Gender, Race and Ethnicity, Religion, Sexual Orientation and Socio-Economic Status, the toolkits provide a roadmap towards more meaningful, accurate depictions of people in marketing communications.

We are then offering the chance for attendees to share the work they have done in this area with the group.

That will be followed by opening up the discussion to share insight about how our community is tackling the issue, how concepts of diversity change according to market, how to avoid stereotypes and clichés, how to ask the right questions about the images you use and how to effect change in your visual communications to be inclusive and representative of the world around you.
